However, it was the Weisenbach Edelbrände distillery, located in the picturesque Black Forest (Baden-Württemberg), that adapted this idea to the German national drink - schnapps, patenting and popularizing the porcelain version of "Schnapspfeifle".
The invention solved a practical problem. The Black Forest is famous for its strong fruit distillates (from cherries, pears, plums), the strength of which often exceeds 40%. From a regular glass, alcohol was often drunk in one gulp, which burned the receptors. The pipe was designed to force the guest to drink slowly, savoring every drop.
