Porcelain Couple Sculpture "Odarka and Karas" The vintage porcelain couple "Odarka and Karas" is a classic example of Ukrainian Soviet chamber sculpture. The figurines are based on the first Ukrainian comic opera by Semyon Hulak-Artemovsky "The Zaporozhets Beyond the Danube". The plot masterfully recreates a popular scene of a family dispute: the strict Odarka reprimands her husband, and the playful Cossack Karas makes excuses, scratching the back of his head.
Both figurines are a native pair from the same factory production, have completely identical time markings and the same palette of artistic painting.
Attribution and characteristics
•Manufacturer: Polonsky Factory of Art Ceramics (Polonne ZHC) [Polonne ZHC].
•Author of the models: Outstanding Ukrainian sculptor-porcelain artist Vladislav Shcherbyna [Vladislav Shcherbyna].
•Period of creation: 1973–1991 (USSR period) [Polonsky ZHC].
•Marking (brand): On the bottom of both figures there is a clear red screen brand of Polonsky ZHC in the form of a stylized letter "K" (silhouette of two cockerels) [Polonsky ZHC].
Both objects have a first grade mark ("1C") [Polonsky ZHC]. On Odarka there is a Soviet price "6-80", on Karasa - "6r" [Polonsky ZHC].
•Material: Hard porcelain, underglaze molding, bright overglaze artistic painting, gilding.

Artistic features
The figurines are distinguished by a detailed reproduction of elements of the national Ukrainian costume and rich colors.
•Odarka is depicted in a traditional embroidered vyshyvanka with a small red and black ornament, a light corset and a bright plakhta with a geometric pattern and gold accents.
•Karas is dressed in a white shirt with red embroidery, lush bright red harem pants, girded with a green belt, and on his shoulders is a light Cossack retinue.
